A Fond Farewell to Summer

It is a bittersweet time as summer comes to a close and kids go back to school.  I look forward to the crisp, cool fall days and am excited to get back into a routine, but a part of me is sad to see the lazy days of summer end.  I wanted to make another summer card before autumn began.  I chose to use this cute bowl of lemons from the PTI Bowl of Sunshine stamp set and dies.  I used some yellow chevron and blue patterned paper for the background. I die cut the collander and lemons and stamped them using Dew Drops Mementos ink in Dandelion, London Fog, and Bamboo Leaf.  I stamped the sentiment on a small rectangle of white cardstock with Dew Drops Mementos ink in Danube Blue.  I used a tiny hole punch to punch a hole in either side of the rectangle and added a yellow brad at each end.  I am happy with the result.  It makes me think of a tall glass of cold lemonade on a hot summer day.

Experimenting with Gelatos

While browsing in Michael's yesterday, I noticed the Gelatos coloring set my Faber Castell and thought it might be fun to try it.  Many of you are already familiar with this medium and have used it to create beautiful cards, canvases, and more.  I decided to cut a card front from plain white cardstock and experiment with the Galatos sticks.  I purchased a four pack of these in the Tropical colors.  First, I made random color designs, covering the entire piece of cardstock.  Next, I used the included brush to light brush over my coloring with water.  I noticed that you need to be careful not to blend the colors too much.  When I was happy with my creation, I let it dry for an hour or so.  I decided that some butterflies would look good with the watercolor look of the Gelato painted card front.  I die cut two butterflies from a sheet of bright pink cardstock.  Then, I  trimmed down that sheet and used it to cover the watercolor sheet.  I used black ink to stamp the sentiment on the card and to stamp over the butterflies to help them stand out.  Using the Gelatos was fun and I like the look that they created for my card.

Supplies used:  Papertreyink cardstock in white and raspberry fizz, Papertreyink Butterfly Dreams stamps and die, Gelatos 4 pack in Tropical, Dew Drops Mementos ink in Tuxedo Black

Mojo Monday #358

This week I participated in the Mojo Monday card layout challenge.  I decided to make a sweet birthday card.  I used medium blue cardstock for the card base and light blue for the layered rectangles.  I used a cute flower background and stamped the card with a bright pink ink.  Next, I die cut a scalloped strip in raspberry fizz as well as a rectangle for the bottom of the card.  I also created a scalloped circle using a scallop punch.  I made a light blue circle with a smaller circle punch and stamped the words "Happy Birthday" in bright pink.  Then, I die cut some little flowers in white cardstock and stamped them with the same pink ink.  Finally, I stamped the flower stems with green bamboo ink and adhered the die cut flowers with thick squares to make them stand out.  Cardstock and stamps are papertreyink and the ink I used is Dew Drops by Mementos.

Make It Monday #175 - My Daughter's Card

My 10 year old daughter enjoys making cards as much as I do.  (It must run in the family!)  So, I couldn't tell her "no" when she asked for my help creating a card for this week's PTI challenge.  She chose to use the Summer Sweetness stamp set and dies.  We cut the card with the dies and she stamped the popsicles directly on the front of the card.  She decided to add a light pink lining to the inside of the card.  Next, she stamped a sentiment in pink on the front of the card.  It says, "Beat the heat with something sweet!"  We tied it all together with some pink and white baker's twine.

Make It Monday #175: Creative Card Borders Using Non-Border Dies

Hi there!  I have had so much fun with PTI's challenge this week that I decided to create two cards.

For the first card I used the PTI Butterfly Dreams stamp set and dies.  First, I stamped the dies with the monarch butterfly using silver ink.  Next, I colored the white space on the butterfly with a pale pink marker.  Then, I used the small solid butterflies to stamp a background on the card front. I added a small pink square with a sentiment stamped in silver.  I finished it off with some silver sparkle trim and pink diagonal stripe paper inside of the card.

The PTI Warm Happiness stamp set and dies was used for the second card.  First, I cut the dies and stamped the cups with brown and tan ink.  Next, I cut a piece of patterned paper to put on the front of the card.  Finally, I stamped the sentiment on the card with brown ink.
