Make It Monday #299: Sentiment Windows

Hello there everyone!  Thanks for joining me today as I share my card for this week's PTI Make It Monday Challenge with you.  I've used this die cut window technique before and I knew I could create something quick and easy for the challenge.  I've been working on a few fall projects, but had not made anything yet for Halloween.  It's only another few short week away!  Yikes!  Time to make a spooky card.  I wanted to keep it simple.  Just some stenciling, a peek-a-boo window, a stamped sentiment, three little stamped and die cut bats, and a bit of twine and this card was complete.

As I mentioned, I have been working on some things for fall.  And ever since I ordered Betsy Veldman's Tag Along Kit, I've become obsessed with creating tags.  I love the tag die included with the kit.  It seems to be just the perfect size and I really like the scalloped look at the top of the tag.  I started off making Christmas tags, but later decided that I needed to work on my autumn projects first.  I wanted to use some of the papers I already had, so I pulled out my Color Pop:  Autumn set and played around with the papers, dies, and stamps until I came up with these beauties.

Imagine these tags tied onto treat bags filled with snack mix, cinnamon pecans, or candy. 

 They could also be wrapped around homemade pumpkin bread.

Color Blocking Three Ways

Today I am sharing three cards that were inspired by this week's Make It Monday Challenge at Papertreyink.com.  In her video, Laurie shared three different, yet simple techniques for color blocking your cards.  Aren't they beautiful?

I was so anxious to try these techniques; I had to create a card for each one!  Check them out.

First up is the pink birthday card.  For this one, I cut an A2 sized card panel from watercolor paper and painted an ombre background using Pale Peony, Lovely Lady, and Pink Blush inks.  I used the Cutaway Tags: Spring die as my focal image.  Next, I heat embossed the sentiment and a few flowers with white embossing powder.  Finally, I added some sequins for a bit of sparkle.

For my second card, I used the Ahoy stamp set.  I decided to make a square card this time.  To begin, I stamped the waves down the card panel using Aqua Mist, Hawaiian Shores, and Tropical Teal ink.  I die cut both the small and the large anchors from white cardstock.  They looked a little flat, so I cut an additional set of anchors and glued them on top of the originals.  I cut a little rectangle from Aqua Mist cardstock for my sentiment and stamped it with Tropical Teal ink.  Lastly, I turned the panel diagonally, trimmed the edges, and taped down the sentiment rectangle.

My third card is this color cheeseburger card.  This card simply uses cardstock to create a color blocked background.  The colors I chose were New Leaf, Bright Buttercup, and Pure Poppy.  Don't they remind you of pickles, mustard, and ketchup?  I used a Sizzix die to create the zigzag edges on both the red and green strips.  I taped down the yellow strip in the center of the card and then taped the green on top and red on the bottom.  Next, I die cut the hamburger bun from fine linen cardstock and stamped it using the same color of ink.  I used New Leaf, Pure Poppy, Cocoa Bean, and Summer Sunrise inks to stamp the lettuce, tomato, burger, cheese, and the Happy Birthday sentiment.  I used foam tape behind the hamburger buns to give the card some depth.

July Blog Hop

Hello again everyone!  I realize it has been quite some time (over a year!) since I have posted anything.  Life has been crazy busy, but I have finally been able to get back to my crafting table.  When I saw this photo of the challenge, I knew exactly which stamp set I wanted to use.

I picked the Peonies on Parade stamps.  First, I used the large curved die from the All Through the House kit and created a stencil.  I die cut two peonies and two sets of leaves and placed the die cuts in opposite corners.  I used washi tape to hold my stencil and the die cuts in place.  Next, I sponged the background with blueberry sky ink.  Then, I stamped the flowers and leaves using soft stone, lemon tart, and simply chartreuse.  Finally, I stamped Proverbs 3: 5-6 from A Cheerful Heart stamp set in Stormy Seas.  I adhered the card front to a blueberry sky card base and used foam tape to "pop it up." 

I also stamped a couple of peonies in the bottom corners of an envelope to match the card.

Ink Blending & Stencils

For this week's Papertrey Ink Make It Monday Challenge, I created a card that combined spring colors and floral accents.  I haven't done much ink blending in the past because I felt that I really wasn't very good at it.  However, Betsy provided a great step by step video that helped me quite a bit.  I combined Aqua Mist, Hawaiian Shores, and Spring Moss ink for my background and used a chevron stencil along with those inks as well.  I used the rectangular frames from the Sprinkles & Shakers kit and some of the preprinted flowers and leaves from the new Color Pop Florals set.  A Hugs die cut and stamped banner finish the card.  I really like how it turned out and am now feeling a bit more confident about my ink blending abilities.

 

PTI February Blog Hop

Today's post was inspired by the following inspiration photo for Papertrey Ink's February blog hop.

The beautiful mix of soft, pale pink, creamy white, and mossy spring green brought me visions of springtime cards.  The variety of objects in this picture offered so many options for creativity.  Should I use the teacup or the vase?  What about the pears or the butterfly?  It was impossible to choose only one project for this blog hop.  Below are my final selections.

My first card features this year's PTI Anniversary Stamp Set, Painted Petals.  This is the first time I've inked up these stamps and I can say without a doubt that they are already one of my all time favorites.  I love how the layers create such a realistic look.  I also used the new Inspired:  Savior set which is perfect for Easter cards.

My next card features some simple watercoloring along with a trio of stamped die cut flowers from Quilted:  Summer and a verse from Cheerful Heart.  A little bow tied with baker's twine finishes it off nicely.

Third, is a card that combines last month's new Mint Julep cardstock with chevron vellum and the butterfly coverplate from the January release.  The die cut sentiment is from Scripted.

The scripted die cuts are used again on my final card for today.  I decided to go with a pink patterned background surrounded by a stitched frame.  I then added the stamped and die cut teacup and kettle from the Cup of Cheer set.

Holiday Happiness

I decided to use the sketch as my inspiration this week and created a Christmas card for my little boy. I think the little gingerbread man in the corner is so cute!  I kept my colors traditional with red and green plaid pape, a dark green panel behind, and the lighter green sentiment die.

I hope you enjoyed taking a look at my son's Christmas card.  I need to get back to my craft table and make a few more cards.  Only 37 days til Christmas!!!

Motif Building

I was a little nervous about participating in this challenge because I had never really tried anything quite like it before.  I was having a hard time deciding which stamps to use at first.  When I pulled out my Cuppa Love set, I knew that the tulip medallion would be a great focal point, plus it created a nice circle to build around.  The tiny ribbons and curly designs are from Tinsels and Tags and the hearts are also from the Cuppa Love set.  The sentiment is from Star of Wonder.

I used the new Tucked In:  Holiday stamps to add a message inside my card along with a couple of stamped hearts.  I had so much fun with motif building that I definitely want to make more Christmas cards with this technique!
